The high altitude slopes of Vallnord Andorra, left riders and spectators alike gasping for breath at the recent UCI World Cup. The Downhill had plenty of exciting action and upsets, whilst in the XC it’s hard to decide which is the biggest story: Nino Schurter toppled from the top step of the podium or an amazing ride by cross country legend Gunn Rita Dahle. Outside of Europe, the trails of Canada saw some fierce action with the BC Stage Race and the Canada Cup. We also round up the Glemmride Slopestyle FMB competition, the ReStart Kupa and the Southern Enduro Champs. In the men’s race it was a dream come true for Loris Vergier who became the most recent French victor, on Bastille Day of all days. The Cross Country World Cup sprung a few surprises with the altitude and vertical nature of the course undoing several of the main contenders races. The Elite Women's race was claimed by a resurgent Gunn Rita Dahle after her podium last week she was able to escape for a fine solo victory over a stacked field. Age really is just a number! In the Men's race the story was no longer about Nino Schurter who suffered on the climbs against a strong Kerschbaumer who eventually managed to fend him off and win his first world cup. The FMB Gold Glemmride Slopstyle in Austria attracted some of the world's premier slopestyle riders. The course was packed with spectators desperate to see their hero's but current superstar Nicholi Rogatkin suffered a blowout. In the event it was the young Italian rider Testa who won with an impressive 91 points. The BC Bike Race finished over the weekend after a gruelling week of racing over the North Shore. The course is tough and is a real prize for top racers as well as the perfect arena for budding racers to cut their teeth. World Downhill legend Chris Kovarik raced the Silverstar Downhill Cup in Canda and managed to pull off an impressive second place to show that like Gunn Rita Dahle, age doesn't slow you down. We've also got a roundup of our local enduro champs from GMBN Social guy Tom.
