Pumping is an essential skill for mountain bike trails - it smooths out transitions and helps you maintain, or even gain speed. Pumping is all about timing - you want to make yourself 'heavy' by pushing weight through the bike and dropping your heels as you come into a dip, before making yourself 'light' as you come out again. It takes a bit of practice, but try it out at a local pump track if there's one nearby, or make yourself a set of 'rollers' like Neil did here.
