Long adventure rides on your mountain bike can be a fun and memorable change from your regular riding, but it’s important to do a few bits of preparation especially if you’re heading somewhere new. Minute detail planning can be daunting and often unnecessary but there are a few essentials to think about. Neil uses his epic 100 mile solstice ride as a guide for how you can prepare for your next adventure. Discover. Leave your tyre tracks in new woods and pastures. That trail that you’ve never ridden could just be the one that changes your life. Refresh your stomping grounds. Chase your ambitions and go into the unknown…. Preparation can make or break your adventure. Forgetting to ensure that you have enough nutrition, water and fuel could completely ruin the day. The same applies for carrying enough parts and spares, don’t let your epic ride be deflated by a lack of planning. And whilst you may not like the idea of having a bar mounted bike computer it’s a great way to ensure that you stay on the right route. If that’s not your thing, why not go old school and take a map with you?
